Unconventional and Inexpensive

I've been a game player for far too long, but when I found my first Cheapass game I was amazed.
For $5 I can laugh my ass off with all of my friends and burn a few hours?....really? It was just too good to be true. This is a company that I hope lasts forever.

      Lets see....a list then?

      1. Give Me The Brain

Premise: The players are zombies working in a fast food restaurant in hell. You can't leave work until all your jobs are done, but unfortunatly there's only one brain to pass around.

Mechanics: This card game is very much like Uno, where to win you must be the first to empty your hand. However, some of the cards can't be played unless you hold the brain (a 6-sided die). Whenever one of these is played, the player rolls the die and compares it to the number on the card played. If the roll is less that the number the "brain hits the floor" and everyone bids to pick it up.

Appeal: This game will keep you laughing with and at your opponents. A lot of the card titles are a little off the wall, like "Look, a Monkey" and "Fly! Be Free", and most of them force players to draw more (often including the person who played the card in the first place). It's nearly impossible to guess who will win, even in the last few rounds.
The randomness is probably the best aspect to this game.

      2. Kill Dr. Lucky

Premise: In this pre-murder mystery the players are all guests at the mansion of the eccentric Dr. Lucky. Each player has there own secret reason for despising Dr. Lucky, and they all want him dead. The game begins when someone cuts the power to the house and everyone takes the oportunity to commit grisly murder.

Mechanics: This board game is very similar to clue. The board is a floor plan and Dr. Lucky totters around the house. Each player gets a handfull of cards, some with room names, and some with weapons. Once a player manages to get Dr. Lucky alone in a room with no one in any adjoining room, they can try to kill him with one of their weapons, or with their bare hands. The other players then play cards from their hands, using the numbers on each card to reduce the power of the attack. Play ends when someone sucessfully kills Dr. Lucky.

Appeal: As in Give Me The Brain, a lot of the cards are a little silly (the chainsaw or cannon only need to come up once or twice for the giggling to start). This game is less about beating your opponents to the finish and more about tripping them up so the never make it there...it doesn't matter if you win, as long as they loose.

      3. Get A Life

Premise: Ever been 20 and living in your parents basement/guest house/etc.? Then this is the game for you. In Get A Life, one player has decided to try to get a job and an appartment, thus, getting a life. This players friends all decide to try to beat him/her to it, mostly just to be jerks.

Mechanics: Get A Life is a board game that is a lot like a tiered version of monopoly. The outer ring of spaces are all jobs (most of them crappy ones). When you land on a job space you can leave an application. Each space can have one app per player. When you come back to that space you can try to get the job. If you're the only one who's applied then the job is a sure thing, but if there are other applicants then you have to roll for it. Once you have a job you get cash everytime you complete the circuit, plus you are able to move into the second ring. These spaces are all appartments (again, mostly crappy ones). Getting an appartment works just like getting a job, except there is an app fee and you have to pay rent once you get the place. Renting an appartment allows you to move into the center ring, which is full of useless expenses (things that anyone with a life likes to do). By moving around the center ring 4 times you win the game.

Appeal: This game is a bit less combative than most Cheapass Games. It really is a race to the finish. There is the potential to get one of your friends fired or evicted, but that's pretty much all you can do to your opponents. The real appeal to this game is the variety of play, and the fact that it's hard to get a life. This is a good long sit-down type of game for the whole family.

There are many others, but I only have so much time in a sitting. At some point I'll append some more to this list.
